Neste statement

22 March 2022

Thank you for the questionnaire. We are pleased to provide you with our response below.

Neste does not have operations nor has invested in Russia or Ukraine. Therefore the survey is not of direct relevance to Neste.

We are appalled and concerned about the war in Ukraine, which is a clear violation of international law and principles of human rights. We, along with so many businesses and individuals, condemn the invasion by Russia.

As stated in our Human Rights Principle, Neste is committed to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and conducting due diligence accordingly.

We continue to monitor the development of sanctions and restrictions. We have taken decisive action in redirecting our sourcing and sales, and we aim to secure the supply of our products in all situations. On 28 February 2022, Neste made a decision to mostly replace Russian crude oil with crudes from other regions and not make any new supply agreements of Russian origin oil products for now.

In recent years, we have sourced very small volumes of renewable waste and residues from Russia that meet the sustainability criteria in the European legislation. Neste will not make any new agreements for sourcing renewable raw materials from Russia.

We are also providing humanitarian support by donating to the Red Cross and UNICEF, and we continue to look for ways in which we can help, including voluntary work of our employees.

Here is Neste’s public response to the war in Ukraine, which we update as needed. Should you have any further questions, please let me know.

The last of the crude oil cargoes from Russian origin arrived at the Porvoo refinery on Wednesday 20 July 2022, and the supply contracts for Russian crude oil have now ended. The remaining supply contracts for other fossil feedstocks end by the end of the year...
