Puno Governor Walter Aduviri was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay 2 million soles in civil reparations to the Peruvian state, having been found guilty of inciting public disturbances when protesting against the proposed Santa Ana mine, a concession granted to Canadian mining company Bear Creek.  He claims to be victim of a political vendetta accusing judges, public prosecutors and private business confederation of links to criminal group, the “Cuellos Blancos”.
