Statement of Solidarity with the Indonesian People Against the Anti-People Omnibus Law

October 2020

We stand in solidarity with our comrades, the people's movement in Indonesia who are struggling to reclaim democratic rights and economic sovereignty against the monopolist power of oligarchs and corporations backed by the Government of Indonesia, which secretly ratified the Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

[...]

We are really concerned about the current economic policy which is a carte blanche acceptance of a model that is based on destructive, extractive policies with disregard for the delicate ecology, exploitative, and monopolistic strategies that emphasise on profits as opposed to equity, without any protection for human rights. This model has expired. Right now, we live in a different world, where people are aware of their rights and choices. We need new policies, the permanent capitalism crisis can no longer be addressed with a profit only business as usual policies.

[...]

Therefore, we urge all international parties to:

  1. Support the democratic struggle of the Indonesian people's movement to realise justice for all Indonesian people.
  2. Stand up for the demands of the Indonesian people as they claim environmental sustainability and a maximum protection to advance labor and human rights while developing a new alternative economic development model.
