The effects of oil and gas production on the environment and human health

Monitoring and evaluation by various agencies, experts in areas exposed to environmental impacts of oil projects confirm that the environment is exposed to the following impacts during production. Emissions into the atmosphere (associated gases-methane, volatile organic compounds, gas burning, etc); Disposal of contaminants to surface and ground water, including the Caspian Sea as a result of use of water in well equipment and compressor stations; Extraction of highly mineralized layer water together with oil; Land pollution with oil and oil products; Drilling cuttings and their burial; Oil spill caused by accidents; Technical equipment which expire date is over, residues of floating vehicles and solid waste formed as a result of repair and construction work. This has a significant impact on the health of the affected population...There are 4 Operating Companies in the selected regions: Salyan Oil OC, Karasu Operating Company which belongs to Global Energy Azerbaijan Group (“GEA”), Neftchala Operating Company and Shirvan Operating Company.
