Ukraine: Mondelez deletes questions & comments about its ongoing business in Russia during online event; incl. co. non-response

On the 3rd of October, Mondelez International organised its 2023 Purpose Day on social media. The company hosted an online event on LinkedIn where it was discussing its approach to "mindful snacking" and engaging with followers and viewers. Among questions posed in the chat by civil society activists globally and the Ukrainian diaspora representatives from the Chicago area, a significant amount was about company's continued presence in Russia, increased profits in the country, growing international pressure on the company to halt business there, its indirect financing of the Russian war effort, human rights due diligence and its complicity in over 100,000 recorded war crimes.

As the Russia-related questions began attracting positive reactions from a wider audience, the company’s event moderator started to delete such questions or just block users who posed them.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Mondelez International to comment. The company did not respond.
