Wal-Mart Stores creates diversity panel [USA]

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is forming a panel of outside experts to advise top executives on promoting diversity in its work force. The world's largest retailer faces mounting pressure to change its business practices. Wal-Mart...also faces a class-action lawsuit alleging discrimination against female employees... Chief Executive Lee Scott has said Wal-Mart is committed to improving diversity, including expanding annual targets from a group of 3,500 officers and senior managers to include more than 51,000 store-level managers. It also wants to promote diversity among Wal-Mart's huge pool of suppliers and last year had its legal department transfer roughly $60 million in business to law firms with minority and women partners.
