Santiago Crisanto Luna, Francisco Jiménez Alejandre, Luis Gustavo Hernández and José Carlos Jiménez Crisóstomo were land owners and community members from the Arantepacua community. On 5 March 2017 they were all killed as a result of an alleged conflict with armed police. Police were in the area to allegedly recover vehicles which had been mobilized by members of the community as a means of protesting the land dispute between Arantepacua and Capácuaro. Both areas and land owners have allegedly disputed the 500 hectares of land due to its pine and oak resources, and logging opportunities.
