Authorities collect JD3.3 million in labour fines — Katamine [Jordan]

The [Jordanian] Labour Ministry has cancelled the repatriation of 527 guest workers after they paid more than JD1 million in fines...In September, the ministry referred 12 suspected human trafficking cases to the anti-human trafficking unit, in which 22 persons were found implicated...[and] 77 children were found working although they were under the age stipulated in the Labour Law... [The ministry said that] 13 per cent of the children were found working in the wholesale and retail sectors, 19.5 per cent in car repair, 11.6 per cent in factories, 5.2 per cent in the garment industry, 9.1 per cent in construction and 19.5 per cent in the hospitality sector, while the rest were scattered in other sectors.
