Checklist on responsible business conduct for companies operating in Ukraine

See all tags

This checklist is developed by Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University and Business & Human Rights Resource Centre to help businesses operating in Ukraine and those which have value chain activities in the country to identify and manage key human rights risks that arise or are significantly exacerbated by the war in Ukraine. Our checklist is a non-exhaustive list of potential actions that allows for rapid, regular (on an ongoing basis) analysis of the human rights risks and impacts common to many industries.

The checklist includes the following sections:

(a) General approach companies are expected to take in all emergency situations, including war;

(b) Risks to employees’ and consumers’ physical safety;

(c) Risks to employees’ and consumers’ mental health;

(d) Risks for labour rights;

(e) Lack of access to essential goods and services;

(f) Risks of hate speech, discrimination and mobbing;

(g) Risks of IHL violations;

(h) Irresponsible business models;

(i) Corruption risks.

This checklist can also be used by development finance institutions, investors, and foreign companies with value chain activities in Ukraine, in order to determine - together with their partners in Ukraine – relevant human rights risks, to prioritise risks and together develop a plan to eliminate or minimise them.
