‘De Beers Group Contributes $2.5 Million Across Botswana And Namibia To Support COVID-19 Response’ 7 April 2020

Established in 1888, De Beers Group is recognized as one of the world’s leading diamond companies. It employs over 20,000 people, with mining operations in Botswana, Canada, Namibia and South Africa. And so to mark their support, today the Group has announced the contribution of $2.5 million across Botswana and Namibia to aid the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The De Beers Group is a 50/50 joint venture partner with both Botswana and Namibia in the finding and sorting of rough diamonds. This is part of a bigger picture scheme across their four producing countries including Canada and South Africa, to help both governments and local communities in acquiring vital medical supplies, food, water, and supporting with community COVID-19 awareness and education.

They have designed a robust Community Response Plan to ensure effective and relevant support is given to their host communities. This plan has been specially developed thanks to the engagement with community, traditional and faith leaders, and government agencies, in turn enabling the De Beers Group to provide the much needed support, in the immediate and in the essential economic recovery phase.
