Cambodia: About 300 garment workers accuse their employers of firing them; company's representative says workers resign

"Over 300 workers protest to demand reinstatement", 23 April 2020

More than 300 workers at Hulu Garment factory today protested in Por Senchey district’s Choam Chao commune after they accused the company of firing them.

Ry Sithyneth, president of Independent Trade Union Federation, said that the company has suspended its operations for more than two months, but it gave 40 percent of the wages to the workers.

He said that the workers protested because the factory management showed them that they resigned from the factory by their own accord.

“The workers did not resign at all, but the company said the workers have resigned. The company did like this to avoid paying seniority pays to the workers,” Mr Sithyneth said, noting that a total of 1,020 workers worked at the factory, but it has suspended its operation owing to cancelled orders.
