Cambodia: Court denies activists bail on charge of violation of privacy for filming sand dredging in Koh Kong province

"Activists lose bail bid", 9 October 2017

Two Mother Nature activists charged with incitement to commit a felony and violation of privacy have been denied bail by Koh Kong provincial court.

Sam Chamroeun, a lawyer for Dearm Kundy, 22, and Hun Vanak, 36, said bail was refused…but he had suggested taking the case to the Appeal Court.

The pair were charged last month after police detained them as they filmed alleged sand dredging in Koh Kong province.

Mother Nature…closed after asking the Interior Ministry to revoke its licence, because the NGO’s members said it could no longer continue its operations.

…Mother Nature posted a video report saying that Cambodia and Taiwan had reported conflicting figures relating to exports of silica sand to Taiwan.
