Disabled shoppers call for more help [UK]

The Mercury took to the [Weston] town centre with a group of disabled shoppers to highlight the good work businesses have done to help since the Disability Discrimination Act (now the Equalities Act) became law in 2004 – as well as some of the pitfalls...According to [HM Revenue & Customs] HMRC.gov.uk: “From 1 October 2004, the Disability Discrimination Act requires service providers to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to their premises to tackle any physical features that prevent disabled people from using their services”...The group [of disabled shoppers] pointed to [some stores]...with good disabled access...ramps, automatic doors, disabled toilets and lifts...[b]ut there are some shops that wheelchair users just cannot use...[The message to businesses is to create more awareness and also]...consider disabled people for employment...[Refers to BHS, Costa, HSBC, Marks & Spencer, Mountain Warehouse, Poundland]
