Equatorial Palm Oil response to newspaper article [Liberia

We respond to...[the] allegation...[that]...Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has committed to protect over 20,000 hectares of the Jogbahn clan from encroachment by Equatorial Palm Oil (EPO)...[W]e emphasise that EPO is keen to significantly uplift socio-economic development...in Liberia and we...operat[e]...strictly within our agreed concession areas...[W]e are also a member of RSPO and take our responsibilities and duties within that organization very seriously...The allegations...hold no weight given that consent has been received from the communities in which we operate (including the Jogbahn clan) to continue oil palm development. Please find attached a letter...sent by the elders of...Grand Bassa...to the Senators of the Liberian Parliament...[which] makes...clear...the...support [of] our oil palm development for the betterment of their people...EPO have the utmost respect for the communities and land rights of..peoples where we operate. We practice free prior informed consent at all times...
