India, US launch $40-million drive against child labour

A $40-million Indo-US venture involving the labour ministries of the two countries and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), aimed at eliminating child labour, was launched here on Monday. The venture, called the "Indus Project", will target 80,000 children in 10 hazardous industries — cigarette-making, brassware, bricks, fireworks, footwear, bangles, locks, matches, stone quarries and silk.
