Indonesia: Mayor condemns two factories that dump hazardous & toxic waste into Bekasi River

"Bekasi Mayor condemns two factories for river pollution", 5 October 2017

Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi has condemned...two factories near the Bekasi River in Bantargebang, West Java, after impromptu inspections discovered that the factories had dumped their waste into the river.

The two factories are iron and steel maker PT Pratama Prima Bajatama and beverage packaging company PT Prima Kemasindo....

...Although Prima Bajatama had a license for liquid waste disposal, the factory was not using its waste treatment plant, and the waste it had dumped into the river had an acid content well above the standard.

...Meanwhile...Prima Kemasindo...cannot manage its coal waste....

Rahmat added that Kemasindo also did not own a license for managing hazardous and toxic waste. Furthermore, the factory's location violated river zoning regulations.
