Japan: Kasumigaoka eviction should halt, says international citizens tribunal

The East Asian Tribunal on Evictions, composed of civil society organisations from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea, reviewed the case of Kasumigaoka in July 2016. Noting that residents had not been adequately consulted, the Tribunal recommended that:

1) [The authorities] should stop any eviction efforts at Kasumigaoka-cho and let 227 families to return to Kasumigaoka-cho per their wishes;
2) [The authorities] should respect right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health and also take part in the cultural life, therefore TMG and JSC should restore public access, especially for 3 families who now live at Kasumigaoka-cho, to the Meiji-park; and
3) The International Olympic Committee needs to ensure to enact no-eviction policy for any host-city in the future.
