Kuwait: New penalties to ensure migrant workers are recruited for the jobs they were promised

"Punishments in play on errant employers – ‘Manpower’ activates labor law provisions", 30 December 2017

The Public Authority for Manpower has activated the legal provisions and decisions for violators of the Labor Law, reports Al-Rai daily. The law stipulates punishing the employer who hinders work of the authority with a fine of not less than KD 500 and not more than KD 1,000. According to the decision an employer who brings laborers from overseas and fail to give them jobs specified in the work permit will be punished. The law stipulates imprisonment for the employer of not more than three years and a fine not less than KD 2,000 and not more than KD 10,000 multiplied by the number of employees. This is done, the authority said, to fight visa trafficking and reduce marginal employment.
