37 States endorse Call to Action to end forced labour, modern slavery & human trafficking at roundtable convened by UK Prime Minister

"A Call to Action to end forced labour, modern slavery and human trafficking." 20 September 2017

[The latest figures of 40 million people trapped in modern slavery, outlined in the 2017 Global Estimates of Modern Slavery and Child Labour, signal the urgent need for action.] 

The UK Prime Minister convened a Roundtable at which 37 countries signed a Call to Action outlining practical actions to be taken to achieve [Sustainable Development Goal] Target 8.7 [which calls for effective measures to end forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour]... 

[Those actions include to:]

-  Ratify and ensure the effective implementation of relevant international conventions, protocols, and frameworks...

-  Strengthen law enforcement and criminal justice responses in order to rapidly enhance capacity to identify, investigate, and disrupt criminal activity...

-  Put victims first...[and]

-  Eradicate forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking, and the worst forms of child labour from [their] economies...by developing regulatory or policy frameworks, as appropriate, and working with business to eliminate such practices from global supply chains.

[Members of Alliance 8.7, a multi-stakeholder global partnership working towards reaching Target 8.7] welcomed [this] Call to Action that was presented...on the 19th September 2017 during the 72nd Meeting of the UN General Assembly...
