AngloGold Ashanti's response on alleged human rights and environmental violations at the Quebradona Copper Mining project

...AngloGold Ashanti is a company that respects national and international laws, including laws related to human rights in all its operations. It has always prioritised respect for communities, the pursuit of dialogue even in the face of differences, and for those who have a different view and doubts about mining, based on truth and argument.

The company is an active member of the UN Global Compact, the International Council on Mining and Metals, and the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative. In addition, business conduct is aligned with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Business.

AngloGold Ashanti has a clear policy in terms of absolute respect for the work of social leaders in Colombia....

The presence has been positively received by the majority of the community. Quebradona has been measuring the support of the communities through studies by the National Consulting Centre and it is evident that the community of Jericho wants the project to be developed in an environmentally responsible way...

The mining project in Jericho has all the required permits in accordance with the rights and obligations granted by the mining title....

The current studies are focused on getting to know the water of the territory in depth to understand the impact and to present solutions and programmes for its protection...

We reiterate that at AngloGold we will always be ready to respond and clarify our activities, as we are convinced of the need for a national conversation on mining based on serious, objective and truthful arguments...
