Bhopal: la justice se penche sur une demande de révision des peines

La cour suprême indienne a débuté mercredi l'examen d'une requête des autorités pour alourdir les peines prononcées à l'encontre des anciens dirigeants de l'usine de pesticides responsable de l'accident industriel de Bhopal en 1984. La police fédérale (Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI), demande à la justice que les sept anciens dirigeants soient condamnés pour homicide involontaire. Ce chef d'accusation est passible de dix ans d'emprisonnement. En 1996, la plus haute juridiction du pays avait décrété que les accusés pouvaient uniquement être poursuivis pour négligence…Outre une réévaluation des peines, les autorités indiennes réclament l'extradition du PDG d'Union Carbide, l'Américain Warren Anderson.
