Professor and researcher Caroline Nogueira received a summons from the Internal Affairs Department of the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) to explain why her research group is providing legal advice to indigenous Mura people who are against the mining operations of the Potássio do Brasil company in their territory. In the notification, the Internal Affairs Department says that Caroline must clarify an ‘alleged conflict of interest’, since Ufam has a protocol of intentions with the company. The process was generated by an anonymous complaint to the Fala Brasil ombudsman, a federal government platform. According to Caroline, there was a risk that she would be subjected to an enquiry and a disciplinary administrative procedure (PAD). Ufam said in a statement that it had closed the complaint due to lack of materiality.
