Chevron's response to fuel supply for violent conflict following ICJ ruling

According to a report from Oil Change International, investor-owned oil companies, including Chevron, are "complicit in facilitating supplies of crude oil to Israel," with Chevron playing a key role in the supply of Kazakh oil via the Caspian Pipeline (CPC), a joint venture partly owned by Chevron. This pipeline accounts for a significant portion of the "66% of oil" supplied to Israel by private companies. Given Chevron's 8% contribution to Israel's crude oil supply and despite growing international pressure and scrutiny over military aid to Israel, the continued supply of oil by Chevron highlights the company’s purported complicity in supporting military actions that contribute to severe human rights abuses.

We requested Chevron Limited to respond to the above as well as the following questions:

  1. Can you confirm if your company supplies oil to Israel?
  2. How does your company reconcile its supply of oil to Israel with the International Court of Justice ruling and its obligations under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights?

Chevrons response is as follows, "Chevron remains focused on reliably providing the energy the world needs.

We are deeply concerned about the recent events in the Middle East and the devastating impact on communities. Our thoughts are with all those whose lives and livelihoods are impacted by violence.

Chevron’s commitment to respecting human rights is integrated into corporate policies and operationalized through our management systems and Business Conduct and Ethics Code. Chevron operates in compliance with all applicable laws."
