China: 14 miners killed and two trapped in coal and gas blast in Guizhou province

“Chinese coal mine blast leaves 14 dead and two missing”, 17 December 2019

Fourteen miners were killed in a coal and gas blast at a mine in southern China… and two people remained trapped underground, authorities said.

The early morning accident was the latest in a series of mining incidents in China, where safety regulations are often poorly enforced.

Two people were trapped underground after the blast at Guanglong coal mine in Anlong county, Guizhou province, according to the Southwest Guizhou Autonomous Prefecture government.

Seven workers were lifted to safety after the accident and rescue work was continuing, local authorities said.

The accident in Guizhou came days after flooding at a mine in southwestern Sichuan province killed five and trapped 13 miners underground…

At a meeting in November, the State Council – China’s cabinet – ordered a “special crackdown on production-related safety issues” to “further improve workplace safety”, state media reported.
