Danone's response on alleged palm oil supply chain violations
...Danone has been committed since 2015 to the traceability and provenance of its palm oil used. The company maintains policies and targets related to the topic. Our goal is to use 100% RSPO segregated oil, which can be traced back to plantation level and must meet high sustainability standards.
Today, around 95% of the palm oil purchased by Danone is already RSPO Segregated certified. Around 3% is RSPO Mass Balance certified, which means that the palm oil used originates mainly from sustainably managed plantations, but without strict separation along the supply chain. The remaining 2% of the oil purchased by Danone, meanwhile, is "conventional" palm oil sourced in Africa.
We are also engaged in various discussions on how to address systemic challenges in the industry: we have signed the New York Declaration on Forests and are members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Palm Oil Innovation Group (POIG) and Southeast Asia Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil (SASPO).
