EDEKA's response
[...] Thank you for your inquiry. It is important to the EDEKA Group that the products we sell are manufactured under socially good conditions. In accordance with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we see it as our natural responsibility to respect human rights and prevent human rights violations. This applies both to our own business activities and, within the scope of our influence, to our value and supply chains.
Compliance with human rights and applicable laws by suppliers, for example with regard to working conditions or remuneration, is a fundamental requirement for supplying EDEKA. [...]
In order to meet the high requirements of the Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz, LkSG), which has been in force in Germany since 2023, we at EDEKA have firmly established all the necessary processes and structures within our group. We have implemented a risk management system as part of which we regularly carry out risk analyses and develop and implement preventive and corrective measures.
We have also set up our own complaints procedure. [...]
We are in contact with BAFA as the responsible authority regarding the complaint you mentioned from various NGOs. We have answered all of BAFA's questions. [...]
