The Zapotec defender Edgar Martin Regalado, originally from Unión Hidalgo in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, is facing a criminal complaint for raising awareness and opposing the illegal extraction of stone materials from Loma Tope (stone bench ‘el Barracón’) located in this Zapotec community. This material is used for the rehabilitation of line K of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT). The journalist Rocío Flores points out that while Martín Regalado was recovering from a physical attack and death threats that occurred in this extraction area last August, he was notified of this complaint against him on 11 September.
