Each year, the Goldman Environmental Prize honours the achievements of six grassroots activists and environmental defenders and their efforts to protect natural habitats and push for political change, often at great personal risk. The 2020 award recognises the work of environmental, indigenous and land rights defenders protecting their lands and forests from destructive industrial activities, including illegal logging, agribusiness, hydropower projects, and extractive industries.
