Guatemala: Entrevista al periodista maya q’eqchi’ Carlos Choc, criminalizado por subsidiaria de Solway Investment Group

“Soy periodista, no un delincuente”. Con esas palabras me recibió el periodista maya q’eqchi’ Carlos Choc cuando fui a verlo este mes en Ciudad de Guatemala...A finales del pasado enero, un juez desestimó finalmente dos denuncias penales contra él hechas por la Compañía Guatemalteca de Níquel (CGN), una subsidiaria de la empresa suiza Solway Investment Group, como represalia por una década de reportes para medios como Prensa Comunitaria desde El Estor, municipio de Izabal, sobre las operaciones de la mina. Le acusaban, entre otros supuestos delitos, de asociación ilícita, amenazas e instigación a delinquir. Desde 2017 estaba obligado por orden judicial a reportarse cada mes con el Ministerio Público...Cree que la crisis económica y la persecución en territorio q’eqchi’ seguirá, de la mano del avance de la agroindustria...
