Honduras: Parlamentarias y ONG presionan a empresa austriaca para que deje de suministrar a hidroeléctrica por posibles violaciones a derechos humanos

El 21 de junio de 2018, 20 organizaciones e individuos incluyendo parlamentarias, académicos y varias ONG enviaron una carta abierta a la empresa austriaca Geppert Hydropower, instándola a dejar de suministrar turbinas para proyecto hidroeléctrico hondureño presuntamente vinculado a abusos contra los derechos humanos. Las preocupaciones incluyen la falta de consulta efectiva, acceso al agua potable, daños ambientales, así como violencia y amenazas contra quienes se oponen al proyecto. La carta pide a Geppert Hydropower que:

  • Detenga inmediatamente la entrega de turbinas
  • Lleve a cabo un riguroso análisis de riesgo sobre derechos humanos y
  • Posteriormente, rescinda todos los contratos vigentes con la empresa hondureña "Hidroeléctrica Centrales El Progreso" (Hidrocep)

El Centro de Información sobre Empresas y Derechos Humanos invitó a Geppert Hydropower a responder a la carta abierta. La compañía se negó a responder.
