In Memory of John G. Ruggie: Tribute by the BIICL Business and Human Rights Team

20 September 2021

The BIICL Business and Human Rights team are saddened by the passing of Professor John Ruggie, the main author of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). It is thanks to his unique combination of pragmatism and principles, his ability to communicate clearly novel ideas in accessible language, and his dedication to engaging in dialogue with many stakeholders, that the UNGPs have achieved their wide influence. His legacy includes the number of people now working in business and human rights, and the creation of bodies such as BIICL's Human Rights Due Diligence Forum. His work will continue to inspire our activities.
