India: Barry Callebaut Barimati pressures workers to stay silent about abuses in exchange for a collective agreement; incl. co. response

In November 2023 it was reported that Barry Callebaut Baramati (India) had offered to sign a collective agreement with the independent trade union BCEU, a day after terminating the elected trade union representative, but only if the union stated that all of the allegations of rights violations and abuses by management over the previous year were untrue. The abuses included the harassment and victimisation of the union's elected General Secretary, that eventually ended in his unfair termination, as well as health and safety issues, and mismanagement of workers' schedules, leading to unsafe working practices.
