Indonesia: Report alleges that companies controlled by APP and Sinar Mas are involved in community conflicts

The Environmental Paper Network released a report entitled, Conflict Plantations: Chapter 1: Revealing Asia Pulp & Paper's trail of disputes across Indonesia"It found that  "in just five provinces of Indonesia, at least 107 villages or communities are in active conflict with APP affiliates or its suppliers’. The research identifies 21 different companies in active conflicts and 38 companies in potential conflicts. It also notes that ‘earlier research shows, however, that even if independent on paper, many of these companies appear to be controlled by APP and/or Sinar Mas”.

The network's media release is linked below and the full report can be accessed here.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Sinar Mas and APP to respond to the allegations found in this report. Asia Pulp and Paper Sinar Mas's response is linked below - it is not a subsidiary of Sinar Mas company. Sinar Mas did not respond.
