Snapshot: In October 2021, the Beijing Changping District Multiple Intelligence Environmental Research Institute filed a lawsuit against Jiangxi Copper Company Limited and its Dexing Copper Mine. The institute accused the company of illegally discharging wastewater, leading to heavy metal contamination in the Dawu River Basin negatively impacting farmland in Dai Village. Jiangxi Copper denied any wrongdoing, asserting that their operations did not cause environmental harm. In November 2022, the Jingdezhen City Intermediate People's Court dismissed the lawsuit. The plaintiffs appealed to the Jiangxi High Court, seeking a court order to halt the alleged pollution, eliminate environmental hazards, issue a public apology, and provide compensation for damages. The Jiangxi High Court was scheduled to hear the appeal on 3 November 2023. The case is ongoing.
