On 10 February 2023, over 2500 people were forcefully and violently evicted from their land in Kapapi village by security forces with no compensation or resettlement, allegedly for the construction of the Feeder Pipeline Component of the Tilenga Project, which is operated by TotalEnergies.

According to Witness Radio's investigations, Enock Kamugisha is one of close to 20 farmers in the Hoima district who were arrested and charged between January - March 2023 due to their land rights defense. Enock Kamugisha was charged with threatening violence.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited TotalEnergies to respond. Both TotalEnergies EP Uganda (TEPU) and EACOP Ltd denied the allegations and stated that no land eviction activities have been carried out by or on behalf of TEPU or EACOP Ltd. The response is available here.
