Kaypó indigenous patrols were patrolling the Xingu River, which borders demarcated Indigenous Lands in Pará, when they approached six boats to give instructions on how to prevent predatory fishing which is common in the region. One of the 15 fishermen approached the indigenous people and, allegedly in a threatening tone, showed off a 12 calibre repeating rifle. He said that the area does not belong to the indigenous people, and that fishermen had the right to fish there and could not be prevented.
