Kenya: Turkana residents sue Tullow Kenya BV for compensation over alleged environmental damages

" Tullow Oil Company Sued By 13 Children Over Environmental Degradation In Turkana" 7 March 2024

Kituo Cha Sheria, a human rights organization, and 13 children from Turkana County have sued Tullow Oil Company for environmental degradation. The petition which was filed at Lodwar Court on Thursday seeks among other reliefs that Tullow Oil Company compensates the community for the loss of their animals which they argue has been occasioned by the waste dumped by the company to the environment. They also want the company to be compelled to clean and remove all the waste they have dumped to the environment.

Additionally, they want the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to institute criminal proceedings against the company management for environmental degradation. In the petition, the residents say that since the company started mining oil, they have lost lots of cattle which is their main source of income.
