On 31 May and 1 June 2023, two unionists, Kim Jun-yeong and Kim Man-jae from the Federation of Korean Metalworkers’ Trade Unions (FKMTU) were injured after they were violently attacked by Korean police. While visiting a sit-in protest of FKMTU members working at POSCO steel mill in Gwangyang, trade union president Kim Man-jae was pressed to the ground by police officers who kneeled on his neck before handcuffing him.
