Latpadaung Inquiry: phosphorous was used, but mining should continue [Myanmar]

The Latpadaung Inquiry Commission released its long-awaited report…in which it confirmed that smoke bombs containing phosphorous were fired on protesters, including Buddhist monks, who had occupied a site at the copper mine project in Sagaing region. The Commission, which…is chaired by opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, faulted the police force for failing to understand how the smoke bombs worked and recommended police receive riot-control training...However, the report said the copper mine "should not be unilaterally stopped."
