Lebanon: Fleifel migrant workers go on strike amid allegations of denied wages

Reports in the Lebanese media claim Fleifel, one of the country’s leading furniture suppliers, has denied the salaries and allowances of migrant workers, including Syrian refugees. Company owner Abbas Fleifel has also reportedly denied employing any foreign workers. The workers have since gone on strike to demand their wages.

Another news report has disputed these allegations, saying Fleifel is the victim of a blackmail campaign, threatening to disrupt its operations. All factory workers have allegedly been paid their dues, following the Ministry of Labour’s mediation efforts. The report further alleges that the strikes conducted by Fleifel’s factory workers lack any legal grounds.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Fleifel to respond to the allegations. Fleifel has not responded.
