Marubeni’s Response

24 March 2021

Through our trading operations Marubeni has business relationships with a number of undertakings in Myanmar, as well as investments.

In line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, as a responsible company, we established our corporate policy on respect for human rights, the “Marubeni Group Basic Policy on Human Rights” (hereinafter, the “Policy”).

Based on our recognition explicitly declared in the Policy that “respecting the human rights of persons affected by our business activities and endeavouring to take responsibility for doing so are of utmost importance”, we are making every effort to ensure the safety of all employees and workers related to our business operations, and will continue to watch the situation closely, in particular any developments which may have a negative impact on the human rights of any stakeholders.  Where necessary, we will consider further appropriate approaches that could be taken by exercising influence through our business.

We have also supported the following statement announced by Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Myanmar (JCCM).
