Nestlé response to CSO calls for coffee sector to "cease attacks" on EUDR

…As the European Coffee Federation has outlined in its direct response, it has always been committed to the successful implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and has dedicated significant resources to minimize and mitigate the risk of deforestation in the coffee supply chain. It has never attempted to undermine the EUDR. Concerns regarding the implementation timeline of the EUDR were related to the absence of practical tools and guidelines needed to comply with the Regulation, which subsequently had an impact on the ability of all relevant actors to prepare for its implementation. It was not linked to the industry's willingness to comply.

As Nestlé, we strongly support the objective of the European Commission to protect the world’s forests and restore forests in a sustainable way. We have consistently advocated for a mix of complementary measures at EU level to address global deforestation in partnership with third countries. Our work to achieve deforestation-free key supply chains started over a decade ago…

Thanks to our longstanding work in avoiding deforestation, we remain confident in our ability to comply with the EUDR…

We have never called for any delay of the EUDR and have always opposed any calls to re-open the substance of the EUDR for new negotiations…
