NZ: Months after exploited Vietnamese worker granted Work Visa, she remains unemployed & increasingly indebted to cover costs of recruitment charges

A Vietnamese worker for New Zealand company Voda was granted a Work Visa, allowing her to work for any employer in any occupation until December 14, 2024. However, she remains unemployed after arriving into New Zealand indebted from recruitment fee charges and a bank loan of NZ$35k at a 20% interest rate. While her contract stated she would be employed full time as a construction worker, she arrived on the understanding she would be employed as a cleaner.

A spokesperson for Voda told Stuff NZ the worker did work for the company in December 2023 "on some of our construction sites for end project cleaning job" but did not provide further information.
