In August 2022, the Brazilian Military Police was accused of threatening Indigenous people in the Pataxó's Barra Velha Indigenous Land (TI), in the extreme south of Bahia. According to Indigenous leaders, gunmen continue to shoot against the village and local communities, and seven traditional chiefs are reported to have received death threats in the Barra Velha TI.

The Pataxó Indigenous group was previously attacked in June 2022 too.
