Sources

The Huancuire Peasant Community issued a statement on 12 July rejecting the repression by the Special Forces of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) against its members, as they oppose the extractive project of the MMG Las Bambas mining company. The villagers claim that the police control measures have been ordered by the company and reject accusations by the PNP that they are linked to illegal mining.

The community is located in the area of the Las Bambas mining project and demands that the construction and operation of the Chalcobamba pit be carried out under high standards of social and environmental responsibility.
