"ZINC SPILL CAUSES MAJOR RIVER POLLUTION", 18 June 2022
...A road accident on 13 June has led to a major pollution of the River Chillón, to the north of Lima. A truck transporting zinc concentrates careered off the road near Cullhuay in Cantas province, Lima region. As a consequence, some 600 tons of trout were lost from a number of fish farms along the valley.
Villagers from across Canta province staged a roadblock in protest at the use made by large mining trucks along roads in the neighbourhood. Local leaders gave the authorities 48 hours to resolve the problem, threatening a permanent blockage if their demands are not heeded.
