Universidad de Piura

The Front for the defence of life and dignity of Chancay, with the support of CooperAcción, organised a day of work to make visible the demands of the people affected by the works of the multipurpose port terminal, or Megaport of Chancay, of the Chinese company Cosco Shipping.

According to CooperAcción, ‘various sectors of the population point out that the company has not adequately attended to the people whose homes have been affected by the blasting and explosions caused by the works. Likewise, land speculation and land trafficking have been denounced. The impact on artisanal fishing in the area, on tourist activities, as well as on the tranquillity of the area, as they denounce that public insecurity has increased’.

We invited Cosco Shipping to comment on the allegations, but the company did not respond.
