Proposal for a parliamentary decision on mandatory human rights due diligence
[unofficial translation of the Danish proposal]
"Proposal for a parliamentary resolution on mandating human rights due diligence legislation for companies and ensuring access to effective remedies", 24 January 2019
The Folketing (Danish Parliament) calls on the Government to put forward a bill mandating large Danish companies as well as small and medium-sized enterprises in particularly high-risk sectors to exercise human rights due diligence. Due diligence requires companies to identify, prevent and mitigate potential and actual negative human rights impacts, as well as report on these efforts and their outcomes.
The proposal should also ensure victims of human rights abuses involving businesses have access to effective remedies.
