Business & Human Rights Resource Centre and Lawyers for Human Rights monitor the 9th session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on a legally binding instrument (LBI) on business and human rights everyday to highlight the decisive movements of the debate.
In the morning, States and the Chair Rapporteur met for a private informal consultation to prepare the recommendations of the Chair and conclusions of the Working Group. In the afternoon, the Chair brought the 9th session of the IGWG to a close with the adoption of the draft report by consensus without any recommendations or conclusions.
The morning session on the fourth day of the 9th session of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group began with the continuation of State-led negotiations on Article 2 (Statement of Purpose) of the legally binding instrument (LBI), including CSO contributions, and ended with negotiations on Article 3 (Scope). In the afternoon session, negotiations on Article 3 (Scope) concluded, and the discussion then focused on potential future steps to facilitate the treaty process.
The morning session on the third day of the 9th session of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group began with the continuation of State-led negotiations on the Preamble of the legally binding instrument (LBI), including CSO contributions. Negotiations on Article 1 (Definitions) followed and continued in the afternoon, as well as discussion on Article 2 (Statement of Purpose).
The second day of the 9th session of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group commenced with states sharing their general comments on the updated draft of the legally binding instrument (LBI). In the afternoon, they moved to discuss the wording of the Preamble.
The first day of the 9th session of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group (OIGWG) started today in Geneva with the opening statements by States.
