Response from the Football Association of Wales to questions on human rights risks and due diligence ahead of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

With us qualifying quite late in the process, we are now working hard around some of the aspects you have mentioned. I am visiting Qatar next week as part of UEFAs Human Rights working group and will be an integral part of the discussions on reform in Qatar around workings rights and wider human rights issues.

I hopefully will be able to provide more information as soon as I can but see below some initial points.

  • We will be releasing a statement soon on our position with regard to the World Cup and specifically with regard to Human rights. Our Board is meeting to discuss this also in the last week of June.
  • Our team will be staying at the Delta by Marriot hotel whom we have completed checks around their Human Rights policy and statement and Global Procurement Supplier Conduct Guidelines. It also appears on your website that the checks are all green ticks. We are currently conducting further checks and due diligence around other aspects.
